TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After a record-setting week at the plate and an impressive week in the circle, which included a perfect game, senior Jessie Warren and redshirt junior Meghan King were named ACC Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
It is the fourth time in Warren’s career that she has received ACC Player of the Week honors, while it marks the third time that King has been chosen as the ACC Pitcher of the Week in her career.
In just the third week of the 2018 season, Florida State has earned five ACC weekly honors, all by different student-athletes as Warren and King join Carsyn Gordon from Week 1 and Kylee Hanson and Sydney Sherrill from Week 2. Warren also received national recognition this week as she was chosen as the Fastpitch News National Player of the Week and was selected as one of the Top Performers of the Week by the NFCA on Tuesday.
Warren was the offensive foundation for the Seminoles last week, batting .476 (10-for-21) over seven games as she also laid claim to several school and conference records. She finished the week with five home runs, 12 RBI, seven runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.238.
Her RBI in game one of the doubleheader at South Alabama on February 21 gave her sole possession of the FSU career RBI record with 217. Her pair of home runs in game two of the doubleheader at USA first matched the ACC career record of 66 HR and then set the new mark with 67.
She was the catalyst in FSU’s 3-1 win on the road at No. 10 Alabama, batting 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run and an RBI single. Warren hit two more home runs and drove in four more RBI on the weekend to finish the week in a tie for the ACC career record in RBI (228) and her 70 career home runs now ranks in a tie for 23rd all-time in NCAA softball history.
King had another outstanding week in the circle for the Seminoles, posting a 3-1 record with a 1.24 ERA over 17.0 innings. She combined with Cassidy Davis to post a perfect game against Northern Iowa on February 23, and completed a technical perfect game by retiring 21 straight batters over three appearances – the final nine batters versus South Alabama (2/21), all nine against Northern Iowa (2/23) and the first three against No. 10 Alabama on February 24.
The Parkland, Fla., native faced just one batter over the minimum through the first 4.2 innings on the road at No. 10 Alabama, earning a complete game win over the Crimson Tide. For the week, she allowed just three runs on nine hits, with four walks and 13 strikeouts as batters earned a .161 batting average against her.
Warren, King and the rest of the Seminoles are back in action at home with the Unconquered Invitational on March 2-4 at JoAnne Graf Field. No. 13 Florida State will host No. 6 Oregon, Florida Gulf Coast and Hofstra in the three-day tournament. Admission is free for all games, while live stats and links for FSU Softball radio will be available on Seminoles.com.
