Virginian John Grubb starred for two years on FSU’s baseball team including the 1970 squad that finished runner-up for the national championship and is one of the legendary Seminole teams. Grubb led FSU in hitting and was steady in the field on that 49-9 team. He hit .303 during the regular season, played well in the outfield and was named to the all-tournament squad at the Florida State Invitational. In the 1970 College World Series, Grubb led the Tribe at the plate and was one of two Seminoles to be named to the All-Series team. He was named honorable mention All-American at season’s end. Two years after he left FSU, Grubb made the majors, first with San Diego and later with Cleveland and Texas, earning a spot on the American League All-Star team.
