TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior offensive tackle Roderick Johnson was named Offensive Lineman of the Week by the Atlantic Coast Conference for the second time in his career following the Seminoles’ 55-35 win over USF, the league announced Monday. Johnson helped pave the way for Florida State’s massive day on the ground as the Seminoles rushed for 478 yards against the Bulls, the second-most in school history and only one yard shy of the school-record 479 yards, set against Western Carolina in 1981.
Junior tailback Dalvin Cook rushed 28 times for 267 yards and two touchdowns, surpassing his personal best of 266 against USF in 2015. Sophomore running back Jacques Patrick, redshirt freshman quarterback Deondre Francois and senior fullback Freddie Stevenson combined for 211 yards and four rushing touchdowns on the day.
Johnson’s first ACC Player of the Week honor came after last year’s game against USF, a game in which Cook rushed for a then career-high 266 yards and three touchdowns. Cook’s rushing performances against USF now rank second and third in school history.
Johnson’s nod is the Seminoles’ seventh ACC Player of the Week selection this season. Junior wide receiver Travis Rudolph was named Receiver of the Week after the game against Charleston Southern, while four Noles were honored a total of five times after the comeback victory over Ole Miss – Francois (Offensive Back, Rookie), senior defensive end DeMarcus Walker (Defensive Lineman), sophomore safety Derwin James (Defensive Back) and freshman kicker Ricky Aguayo (Specialist).
Noles Up to No. 12 In AP, Coaches Polls
After the win at USF, Florida State moved up one spot from No. 13 to No. 12 in the Associated Press Poll. The Seminoles moved up two spots from No. 14 to No. 12 in the Amway Coaches Poll. Saturday’s opponent, North Carolina, is ranked No. 23 in the Coaches Poll after a come-from-behind victory over Pittsburgh.
