NEW YORK – November 1, 2016 – SiriusXM will launch a new show hosted by Florida State golf coach Trey Jones on its exclusive 24/7 golf channel, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio, which is available nationwide on satellite radios (Sirius channel 208, XM channel 92) and on the SiriusXM app.
Jones will host Beyond the Tips alongside co-host Jeff Cameron starting Wednesday, November 2, at 9:00 pm ET. The one-hour show will air every Wednesday, covering NCAA golf from the perspective of one of the best coaches on the collegiate level. Jones and Cameron will discuss the country’s standout college teams and individual competitors and will share their thoughts on the development of players through high school and college and what it takes to make it in the professional ranks.
“As a longtime listener, I’m excited for the opportunity to be on SiriusXM where I can share my passion for collegiate golf and bring more exposure to the game,” said Jones. “I often get questions from people about the format as well as the talent levels of players from juniors through the college ranks. We have some great young talent in the college game now that are future professional stars. It will be fun to talk about them as well as the current PGA TOUR stars who successfully made the move from college to the pros. I can’t wait to get started.”
“Trey is one of the foremost coaches in college golf and his teams consistently succeed both athletically and academically,” said Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer. “He’s a wonderful mentor to the young people who play for him and he brings a terrific perspective on what it takes to succeed on the developmental and collegiate levels of the game and beyond. We’re excited to have him share that insight with our audience each week.”
Now in his 14th season as the head men’s coach and Director of Golf for the Seminoles’ men’s and women’s golf programs, Jones is one of the winningest coaches in Florida State history. He is the only coach in school history to lead FSU to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and his 20 tournament wins are the most in school history. A two-time ACC Coach of the Year (2008, 2015), Jones has led the Seminoles to five straight NCAA Championship appearances going into this season. His teams consistently hold prominent places in the national rankings and are annually among the top producers of All-American and all-conference performers. Several of his standout players have gone on to achieve success on the PGA TOUR, including Brooks Koepka, Daniel Berger and Jonas Blixt.
Jones guided Florida State to its most successful season in program history in 2015. FSU ranked No. 1 in the Golf Coaches Association of America Poll for most of the season and entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed for the first time ever. The Noles set a school record with six tournament victories and established three All-Americans in Jack Maguire (First Team), Hank Lebioda (Second Team) and Rowin Caron (Third Team).
