TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior diver Katie Sirounis has been selected as ACC Performer of the Week for the second time in her career after earning a pair of victories against No. 6 Auburn.
“Katie has been very focused this season on making the changes to her dives that we’ve been working on,” FSU diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said. “She has been implementing them and that translates into consistency.”
Sirounis notched zone qualifying scores on the one-meter and three-meter boards against the sixth-ranked Tigers to claim the honor. On the three-meter the Indian Harbor Beach Fla., native earned a score of 307.15 while on the one-meter she earned a score of 273.20. Her qualifying score on the three-meter was her fourth consecutive zone mark in the event. Sirounis was named ACC Performer of the Week in 2008 after her sweep of the diving events against UNC-Wilmington and North Florida.
“She’s diving well because she’s done the work and that’s when you start diving well and winning events,” Jeffrey said. “This year I think she’s really matured and I think she will have a great postseason.”
Next up for the Seminoles are the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships which will be hosted by the University of Maryland. The Women’s Championship runs February 18-21 while the Men’s Championship runs Feb. 25-28. ACC Select will provide coverage of each Championship with live video from Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening finals each night.
