TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Senior Kim Jones was named the women’s ACC Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week for her outstanding performance at the Seminole Track Invitational this past weekend. Jones accumulated two individual first place finishes and ran a leg on the 4x100m relay team that ran to victory. In the process, the Greensboro, NC native established three regional qualifying marks over the weekend.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Jones won the event in a collegiate best time of 13.09. She now sits second all-time in Florida State history in the event, trailing former Seminole and Olympian Kim Batten by only .03 seconds. She then compiled a first place finish in the women’s long jump, establishing a mark of 19′ 4.25″ (5.90m), her second best jump of the season.
Jones also ran a leg on the women’s 4x100m relay that placed first at the Seminole Track Invitational. She joined teammates Evelyne Niako, Shauna Quinn and Kim Walker to record a season best and regional qualifying time of 45.43.
Jones shares this week’s award with Virginia’s Kiamesha Otey, who went on to post three regional qualifying marks as well.
This is the fifth time during the 2003 outdoor track and field season that the ACC has named a member of the Florida State track and field team Performer of the Week. Jones joins teammates Joep Tigchelaar, Vicky Gill, Laura Gerber and Craphonso Thorpe as recipients of this award. For Jones, this is the second time this year she has been named ACC Performer of the Week. She last won the award on February 10th during the indoor track and field season.
