Kim Metraux Leads Florida State At Schooner Fall Classic

Round 2 Results / Round 3 Tee Rimes

NORMAN, Okla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State senior Kim Metraux shot a 67 and moved into a tie for 14th place in the individual standings, and the Seminole women’s golf team moved into a tie for sixth place in the team standings after two rounds of the 2017 Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club.  Metraux improved her individual standing by 36 spots and the Seminoles moved up four places in the team standings with their outstanding play in the second of three rounds.

Metraux and teammate Amanda Doherty, both with 36-hole totals of 142, are well within striking distance of the individual lead of Kristen Gillman of Alabama.  Gillman has carded back-to-back scores of 68 and is the individual leader with a total of 136 – six strokes ahead of Metraux and Doherty.  The Seminoles, who began the day in 10th place in the team standings, are currently in a tie for sixth place with Notre Dame.  The Seminoles are within four strokes of moving into the top five and are within 14 strokes of Alabama as Florida State looks to defend the tournament championship and become the first team to win consecutive titles in this event.

“We put together a good round of golf today,” said Head Coach Amy Bond.  “We have put ourselves in a good position with one  round to play and we are going to see what happens tomorrow.”

Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland) played the second best round of the day as she carded a 4-under par score of 67.  She was nearly flawless with four birdies and all 18 holes played at par or better.  Metraux birdied her first hole of the day to go below par and stayed there for the entire round with two birdies on both sides of the course.  She is now at even par for the tournament after carding a 75 in Saturday’s first round.

Metraux’s score of 67 marked the third time in her career that she has carded a 67 or better – with two of those three scores coming in the Schooner Fall Classic.  She carded her career-best 65 in the first round of the 2016 Schooner Fall Classic, totaled a 67 for the first time first round of the 2015 Jacksonville Classic and finished with a 67 in Sunday’s round.  Metraux has now carded 10 rounds in the 60’s during her 101-round career as a Seminole.

Sophomore Amanda Doherty (Atlanta, Ga.) continued to play excellent golf as she fired her second consecutive round of 71.  She has a two-day total of 141 and is tied with Kim Metraux and four others for 14th place.  Doherty was again strong as she carded a team-high six birdies among the 13 holes she played at par or better.

Doherty, who has seven birdies in the first two days of the tournament, carded her first career hole-in-one in Saturday’s first round and has now carded three of her first five rounds of the fall season at par or better.

Senior Morgan Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland) is in a tie for 23rrd place in the individual standings with a two-day total of 144.  She carded a 73 in the second round — a round that included four birdies.  She birdied two of her first three holes of the round and begins the third and final round within two strokes of par for the tournament.  Metraux leads the Seminoles with nine birdies in the first two rounds of the event.

Sophomore Ashley Mangan (Clermont, Fla.) and freshman Kathleen Sumner (Charleston, S.C.) carded scores of 74 and 76 in the second round.  Mangan’s round of 76 marked a six stroke improvement from Saturday’s first round while Sumner recorded her second consecutive score of 74.  Mangan is playing in her first career event and Sumner in her second.

The Seminoles carded a team total of 19 birdies to bring their team total to 73 for the season.  Bond is donating $10 for each birdie made by the Seminoles to hurricane relief in the states of Florida and Texas (#birdiesfortxfl).
