TALLAHASSEE, Fla.– Although the 2010 season has yet to begin, junior Kim Williams is already being noted as one of the top 10 athletes in the nation for this year as she was named to the Bowerman Women’s Official Preseason Watch List by the USTFCCCA. Williams, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, has continued to break records since setting foot in Tallahassee in 2008.
“I feel honored to be considered and recognized for my accomplishments,” Williams said.
A three-time NCAA Champion, Williams became just the second female to sweep both the long jump and triple jump titles at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Williams set the groundwork for nationals at the Atlantic Coast Conference meets as she racked up three ACC Champion titles to add to her three previous trophies earned in 2008.
Williams currently holds three FSU records in the triple jump indoor (14.03m/46-00.50) and outdoor (14.08m/46-02.50) as well as the long jump outdoor (6.66m/21-10.25).
“The Bowerman is the Heisman of Track & Field which signifies the top athlete in all 21 Track and Field events,” FSU Head Coach Bob Braman said. “It’s a wonderful honor for Kim to be considered for such a prestigious award.
Also earning recognition for their accomplishments were junior Ngoni Makusha and senior Charles Clark as they received honorable mentions on the watch list and are therefore able to be considered for future official watch lists.
The three men and women finalist for the award will be named on June 15. Fans can keep up with the Bowerman candidates on the USTFCCCA’s weekly result page on www.ustfccca.org.
