Kittleson And Blixt Lead Seminoles In Second Round Of Isleworth/UCF Golf Classic

Oct. 22, 2007

Florida State freshman Drew Kittleson and senior All-American Jonas Blixt shot team-low scores of 74 to lead the Seminoles during the second round of the Isleworth/UCF Collegiate Classic at the Isleworth Country Club. The No. 6 ranked Seminoles are 13th in the field of 18 after the first 36 holes of the 54 hole event which contains 14 of the nation’s top 25 ranked teams.

No. 5 ranked Georgia surged from ninth place in the team standings after the first round to first place in the team standings after the second round. The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 275 – a total of 13-under par and lead Wake Forest by four strokes. The Bulldogs were 10 strokes better than the Demon Deacons in the second round. Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State shot a six-under par 66 in the second round and shares the individual leader with a Jamie Lovemark of Southern Cal. Fowler and Lovemark have identical scores of 138.

Kittleson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) has a two-round total of 145 after carding his collegiate career low of 73 in the first round and a 74 in the second round. His total of 145 is the best 36-hole total of his young Seminole career. Kittleson parred his first 10 holes of the second round and earned two pars and two birdies over his final eight holes. Heading into the third round Kittleson will begin play looking for his third top-40 finish of the fall season.

Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) carded an uncharacteristic five-over par 77 in the second round and has a two-round total of 146. After carding six birdies and three holes over par in the first round, Savage finished with only one birdie and six holes over par in the second round. He is in a tie for 32nd place in the individual standings.

Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) carded a two-over par score of 74 and has a two-day total of 146. He was consistent throughout the second round with 15 holes at par or better and only three bogeys. Blixt finished with three bogeys on the back nine to card only his third scored of 74 or higher in 11 rounds during the fall season.

Tommy Rymer (Hastings, Minn.) and Song Joen (Seoul, South Korea) shot scores of 79 and 81, respectively, for the Seminoles in the second round.

“This is hopefully going to serve as a wake-up call for our entire team,” said Head Coach Trey Jones. “We met with some adversity and I felt that we pressed too much today because of it. I’m looking forward to tomorrow to see how we play. Our players have to understand that the national championship trophy is not awarded in the fall and that we have to work hard if we want to begin thinking about being in that mix.”
