Kittleson And Lauer Lead Seminole Men’s Golf Team At Brickyard Collegiate

Oct. 11, 2008

MACON, Ga. –
Sophomore Drew Kittleson and junior Seath Lauer are in a tie for 14th place in the individual standings and the Florida State men’s golf team is in a tie for 10th place in the team standings after the first round of the Second Annual Brickyard Collegiate Championship at the Brickyard Golf Course. Kittleson and Lauer shot identical scores of three-over par 73 in the first round and are within striking distance of the leaders with two rounds of golf left to play in the tournament.

Georgia Tech, Clemson and Virginia Tech – all from the Atlantic Coast Conference – hold the first, second and third places (respectively) in the team standings. The Yellow Jackets have an eight stroke lead over the Tigers and a nine stroke lead over the Hokies. Wake Forest and Duke, also members of the ACC, are both in a tie for sixth place. Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech is the overall individual leader after carding a three-under par score of 67. He leads Drew Weaver of Virginia Tech by one stroke.

Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) began the day well and was at even par after his first nine holes. He carded two birdies and two bogeys and was never more than one stroke over par before making the turn. Lauer finished three over par on his back nine with one double bogey and two bogeys. Kittleson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was two under par over his final six holes with two birdies and four holes at par to finish with his three over par score of 73.

Freshman Brooks Koepka (Wellington, Fla.) finished his first round with a six-over par score of 76. He was even par over his final nine holes after finishing his first nine at six strokes over par. Koepka finished well with two birdies on his final four holes of the afternoon. Junior Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) finished with a 77 while Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) finished with a 79.

“The golf course played extremely hard for those who did not drive the ball in the fairway today,” said Seminole head coach Trey Jones. “We obviously contributed to that group of people. Our experienced players need to carry us on difficult days and they are not doing that at this time. We will come out ready to compete in the morning.”

The event continues with a second round of 18 holes on Sunday and concludes with a final round of 18 more holes on Monday.
