KOHALA COAST, Hawaii –
Sophomore Drew Kittleson shot a career-best 66 and the Seminoles men’s golf team improved on its first round score by 18 strokes and bettered its team standing by three positions during the second round of the 19th Annual Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate at the Mauna Lani Resort. The Seminoles enter Friday’s final round of play in 12th place in the team standings.
Southern California, the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, outscored Washington by eight strokes in the second round to leapfrog the Huskies in the team standings. The Trojans enter the final round of play with a four stroke lead in the rush for the team championship.
Kittleson carded the best round of the day among the 94 golfers in the event as he carded a six-under par 66. His score bettered his pervious career-low of 68 during the 2008 ACC championship and the 2008 Gator Invitational. Kittleson improved his individual standing by 57 positions after carding an opening round score of 80.
“It was good to see Drew come out with more focus today and put up a very good score,” said Seminole head coach Trey Jones. “He was two-under par on his first nine holes in difficult conditions then turned over par early on his second nine. He hung in there very well and finished the round very well.”
The Seminoles begin play in the final round Friday looking to gain a top-10 team victory.
“We need to play the golf course from the start and not let the conditions dictate our demeanor,” said Jones.
