Kress Signs Four Highly Touted Players To National Letter of Intent

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball program has signed highly touted high school volleyball players Nichole Baker, Brianna Barry, Jackie BonSalle and Malorie Wessel to a National Letter of Intent, it was announced today by Seminole head coach Todd Kress.


Barry, a 6-foot-3 middle from Winter Springs, Fla., and BonSalle, a 6-foot-4 standout from Albuquerque, N.M., are two of the most sought after players in the country. Kress will expect them to provide much needed height to the Seminole roster on the front row.


Meanwhile, 5-foot-10 setter Baker out of Findlay, Ohio, and 5-foot-9 Wessel bring a ton of experience, fire and enthusiasm to the team. Wessel is from West Chester, Ohio, and can play all positions.


“I think this is a class that has the potential to take this program to the next level,” said Kress. “They are very determined, hard working, and blue-collared-type players who are coming here to make a difference. Obviously, it is a very talented group and the intangibles they bring to the program are just as impressive.”

Nichole Baker is a lean, 5-foot-10 setter from Findlay, Ohio, who was a standout at Findlay High School. She played for Premier Volleyball Club under the direction of Jodi Schramm…Baker, who was led by head coach Amber Brenamen in high school, was named second team all-state in 2005…She earned Greater Buckeye Conference Player of the Year honors as well as All-GBA first team distinctions…A 2004 AAU All-American…Her club team clinched the junior national championships in 2004…The daughter of Bruce and Pat Baker…she has academic interests in English studies…selected Florida State over Ohio St. and Connecticut.


Kress On Baker: “Nikki will bring positive intensity to the floor. Her setting accuracy and leadership will be major attributes for the future of Florida State volleyball.”

Former Tallahassee resident Brianna Barry is a 6-foot-3 middle from Winter Springs, Fla…The daughter of Tom and Betty Ann…Her sister Caitlin attends FSU…Earned two all-tournament honors this season at the Winter Springs Invitational and the Lake Bradley Tournament…Chosen Most Offensive Player at the Lake Bradley Tournament…Member of the Youth National Team Training squad in 2005…Attended the Girls Youth National A-2 training camp with USA Volleyball during the summer of 2004…Named to the All-Seminole County team in 2004…A third-team all-state selection (Florida) in 2003…Named best hitter at WSHS during the 2003 and 2004 seasons…Named Outstanding Blocker at a club tournament…Member of the National Honor Society.


Kress On Barry: “Brianna is a marquee Fab 50 recruit for the 2006 class and we are thrilled to have her as a part of this program. She will bring versatility to our front row play with her attacking and her blocking scheme. Brianna will become one of the most elite players ever to play at Florida State University.”

Comes from a super athletic background as her father is former NBA player George BonSalle, a 1957 first round draft pick…Her mother is Jeanne Marie and she has two older brothers…Was a member of the U.S. National Development Team and attended the USA Volleyball High Performance camp in 2002…Chosen for USA Volleyball programs in 2002, 2003, and 2004…Selected to the varsity team as an eighth grader in 2001… As a freshman and sophomore in 2002 and 2003, named all-district first team, all-metro first team, and all-state…Selected to the 2003 Clovis All-Tournament team…In 2002, named to the All-City Tournament team…As an eighth-grader, earned all-tournament, all-district, and high school MVP honors…Named to the 2001 all-state second team…Led St. Pius to the 2002 and 2003 New Mexico state championships…Her team was undefeated in 2003…BonSalle was a team captain for her club team four straight seasons (2001-2004)… A member of the 2002 regional all-star team (16U)…Played in the World Tournament in Park City, UtahSelected Florida State over Florida, USC, Long Beach and California.

Named to the USA Volleyball Girls Junior All-Tournament team (17-open)… Selected to the 2005 All-Ohio High School Girls Volleyball first team…Picked first team All-Ohio Coaches (2005) …Named the GGCL 2005 Co-Player of the Year…An honorable mention all-state selection in 2004…Wessel is a two-time first team all-city selection (2004, 2005)…Garnered All-GGCL first team accolades in 2005.
