Kubura and Knuth Pick Up AVCA Regional Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Florida State volleyball’s Milica Kubura and Taryn Knuth added more postseason honors to their resumes, as Kubura took home another AVCA All-Region recognition and Knuth was named the East Region Freshman of the Year.

Kubura becomes the sixth player in FSU history to be named to the AVCA All-Region Team three times, and only the second player in program history to earn four All-Region honors (earned Honorable Mention in 2014) alongside Maggie Philgence (1987-90). She is the only right side hitter on the 2017 East Region Team, and one of six ACC players to appear on the list.

“I’m proud of Mili for her recognition nationally as an All-Region player,” said head coach Chris Poole. “She was a great leader for us and was a real go-to hitter for us this season. Mili has so many great attributes that are going to help her to be very successful in anything she chooses to do in the future.”

The Belgrade, Serbia native has made a name for herself in her four-year career as a Seminole, becoming only the fifth player in the rally scoring era to earn 1,000 career kills. She is ranked in the top-15 in FSU’s rally scoring history in six different categories – with 1,222 kills (2nd), 2.73 kills per set (12th), 2,748 total attacks (3rd), .303 attack percentage (11th), 311 assisted blocks (5th) and 330 total blocks (8th).

Knuth just wrapped up one of the most successful freshman campaigns the Seminoles have seen in a while. She holds the records for solo blocks (22), total blocks (162) and blocks per set (1.49) among all freshmen in FSU’s rally scoring history, and holds the all-time assisted blocks record for freshmen with 140 this season. Her .319 hitting percentage and 220 kills this season also ranks in FSU’s single-season top 10 records.

“Taryn had an amazing year for a freshman,” Poole said. “It is unusual to make such an impact as a young player, but Taryn has worked very hard both on and off the court. She loves pressure and thrives on it. I’m looking forward to seeing how much more she will improve over the next 8 months as we prepare for the 2018 season.”

Knuth, the 2017 ACC Freshman of the Year, becomes only the second player in Florida State history to earn the AVCA East Region Freshman of the Year recognition alongside Cassie McLaughlin (2003). This honor makes her the first Seminole to earn AVCA East Region Freshman of the Year, ACC Freshman of the Year, ACC All-Freshman Team honors and at least one ACC Freshman of the Week recognition.
