GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Senior Susan Kuijken fresh off her second place showing at the Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Ind. was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office.
NC State’s Ryan Hill was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week, and Florida State’s Susan Kuijken earned the league’s Women’s Performer of the Week honors.
“Susan was an absolute team leader on Saturday,” head coach Karen Harvey said. “She paced Pasca and Pilar through the race. Susan even dropped back to help Pilar when she knew she was struggling.”
Led by Kuijken, the Seminoles turned in a second-place overall finish in the 37-team Blue Race with 135 points at the NCAA Pre-Nationals held in Terre Haute, Ind. In her first action of the 2009 season, the Nijmegen, Netherlands, native ran the 6K course in 20:20.8 to finish in second overall in a field of 249 runners.
“Everyone saw second place and a fast finishing time, but I saw someone who is willing to put her team first.”
The Seminoles will train over the next week and a half before heading to Cary, N.C. for the ACC Championships hosted by NC State October 31.
