TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — For the second time in the four weeks of the 2018 season, Kylee Hanson has been recognized as the conference’s best pitcher as the redshirt senior was named ACC Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Hanson was also selected as one of the Top Performers this week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
It is the sixth time this season that a Florida State player has earned either ACC Player or Pitcher of the Week honors, and the Seminoles have received at least one of the weekly accolades in all four weeks of the 2018 season.
Hanson was dominant in the circle last week for the Noles, as she faced just six batters over the minimum over 22.0 innings of work. She retired nearly 92% of hitters (66-of-72) during the Unconquered Invitational.
Overall, the redshirt senior posted a 2-1 record with a 0.32 ERA over 22.0 innings pitched, giving up just eight hits and one walk with 28 strikeouts as opponents had a combined .121 batting average.
Against Hofstra, she recorded 21 outs through the first 21 batters as the Noles and Pride went to extra innings tied at 0-0. Hofstra managed to break the tie in the top of the tenth with a double, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 win, as Hanson ended with 13 strikeouts and zero walks for the game. In game two of the weekend, Hanson struck out 12 in 6.2 innings as the Noles defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 6-2.
Closing out the week, Hanson entered in relief against No. 6 Oregon and shut down the Ducks over the final 5.1 innings to allow FSU to come from behind and earn a 2-1 victory. She did not allow a walk or a run and scattered two hits over the remainder of the game as no Oregon runner reached second base against her.
