Florida State leads 7-1
The Lady Seminoles lead the all-time series with Auburn 7-1. The Tigers picked up their only series victory when the schools last met in 1996 (15-3, 15-8, 15-12), the only time the teams have faced off in Auburn. Seniors Courtney Dipert and Aisha Thornton saw limited action in that match. The last Lady Seminole victory over the Tigers came in FSUs 1993 season opener. FSU downed Auburn 15-6, 15-4, 15-3 in the first game of the 1993 Florida State Classic.

Been Here, Done That
Auburn Head Coach Kris Grunwald has spent plenty of time in Tully Gym. He was an assistant coach to Dr. Cecile Reynaud at FSU from 1991-1993. In Grunwald’s final year with the Lady Seminoles, FSU opened its season with a 3-0 victory over Auburn in Tallahassee. Auburn Assistant Coach Jenn McCall is also a familiar face. McCall is a four-year letterwinner at Florida State (1990-1993). She led the team in set assists in both 1990 and 1993. McCall ranks 3rd on the FSU all-time assist list with 2,888 and posted the 2nd best season total ever — 1,452 in 1993 — behind Fiona Boltens 1,744 set assists tallied during last years ACC Championship season.
Seven New Faces
The Lady Seminoles have quite a few new names on their 1999 roster. Seven new players will line up alongside FSUs seven returning letterwinners. All of the Lady Seminoles new players are members of the freshmen class.
Missing in Action
An important player in FSU’s line-up will be missing for the Lady Seminoles first four matches of the season. Sophomore middle hitter Norisha Campbell is currently competing at the Junior World Championships in Canada as a member of the USA Junior National Volleyball team. She will rejoin the Lady Seminoles on September 7th.
Tough in Tully
Florida State hopes to continue its great play in Tully this season following a 14-1 home campaign in 1998. With an average of 604 fans attending each of the Lady Seminoles home matches last season, FSU ranked 41st among Division 1 schools in attendance. Hawaii topped the list with an amazing 6,880 fans per game average. From the ACC, Clemson ranked 27th and Georgia Tech 32nd.
Nearly half (10 of 21) of Florida States opponents this season received votes in the USA Today / AVCA Coaches Preseason Poll released August 12th. FSU faces a pair of Top 12 teams during September, both in Tallahassee. #12 UC Santa Barbara visits on September 15th and #8 Florida comes to town on September 28th. Along with Florida State, four other ACC schools received votes (Clemson, GT, UNC, UVa).
Auburn and Florida State have several opponents in common for the upcoming season. Both the Tigers and the Lady Seminoles will host matches with UC Santa Barbara, Florida, Florida A&M, and South Carolina this year. FSU is the only ACC team on the Tigers schedule.
