Lady Seminoles Earn Preseason National Ranking

August 12, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State University volleyball team has been ranked No. 24 in the USA Today/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25, released today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

“We are very pleased and excited to be ranked in the preseason poll,” FSU Head Coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud said. “I think it is important to start the season in the rankings and continue to move up as the season progresses.”

Florida State returns all of its starters from last year’s 25-9 NCAA Tournament team. The Lady Seminoles were a unanimous pick to win this year’s Atlantic Coast Conference race, after placing second in last year’s regular season.

“The team reported today and we will start practice tomorrow,” Reynaud said. “We’re going to have to work very hard this season and we can’t wait to get started.”

Florida State will open play on September 4th vs. Southeast Louisiana in the Florida State Volleyball Classic at Tully Gymnasium. Florida International and Northern Iowa will also compete in the tournament. Four of FSU’s 1998 opponents are ranked in the preseason poll.
