Series vs. Maryland: Florida State trails 7-11 with the Terrapins winning 8 of the last 9 meetings. The Lady Seminoles swept Maryland 15-12, 15-2, 15-10 at home last season.

Series vs. Virginia: The Lady Seminoles lead 15-4. FSU downed the Cavaliers twice in 1998, sweeping UVa 15-1, 15-12, 15-5 at home and 15-10, 15-12, 15-9 in the ACC Tournament.

  • In Durham, Duke tallied 11 service aces and outhit the Lady Seminoles .286 to .221 to down FSU in four games. Sophomore Norisha Campbell pounded out 17 kills and notched 3 blocks and senior Aisha Thornton came up big at the net with seven blocks.

  • Aisha Thornton posted another 7 blocks at Wake Forest, but the Demon Deacons rallied for a 20-18 game two victory to steal the momentum enroute to a three-game sweep of the Noles in Winston-Salem.

  • In front of over 1,700 fans in Tully Gym, FSU’s battle with the #4 Gators fell short as Florida downed the Lady Seminoles in three games. Middle hitters Campbell and Thornton led the Noles with 12 kills and 13 kills, respectively.

Last Tuesday (15-13, 15-2, 15-7)

The Cavaliers swept past Maryland in College Park Tuesday behind a double-double performance from Deanna Zwarich. Zwarich notched 12 kills and 13 digs in Virginia’s second conference victory. Andrea Fischer and Jessica Parsons also posted double-digit kills in the win. For the Terrapins, Kate Hannas tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Nnenna Amobi and Beth Murphy also topped 10 kills in the match. As a team, Virginia outhit Maryland .375 (just 9 errors for the Cavaliers) to .233 and outblocked the Terrapins 7-4. UVa also served up 8 aces.

  • Head coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud is approaching the 600-victory plateau. Entering this week’s play, she has a total of 594 career victories, all as head coach of the Lady Seminoles. Maryland head coach Janice Kruger is also nearing the 600-win mark. Kruger’s career coaching victory total now stands at 598.
    Campbell Stars in ACC Play In her first start as a Lady Seminole Friday night at Duke, sophomore outside hitter Luana Ruiz Azevedo notched personal bests in kills and digs with 15 of each registering the first double-double of her collegiate career.

  • Despite losing its first two ACC matches, Florida State is on pace with its 1998 ACC Championship squad. The Lady Seminoles lost their first 2 ACC matches last season (at Clemson & at Georgia Tech) but finished the regular season 11-5 enroute to their first ACC title with a perfect 3-0 record in the ACC Tournament, all three-game sweeps.
    Outstanding October

  • Florida State hopes to duplicate its October performance from 1998 this season. The Lady Seminoles were 9-1 last October falling only to North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Out of FSU nine October win last year, eight were sweeps including 3-0 wins over 6 different ACC opponents. FSU swept Virginia on the 16th and Maryland on the 18th, part of an 8-match winning streak for the Lady Seminoles.
    Injury Report

  • Freshman middle hitter Dawn Hough remains questionable for this weekend’s ACC matches with Virginia and Maryland. She has been sidelined for Florida State’s last three matches due to swelling associated with a right knee sprain.
    In Overtime

  • Florida State has had six games in its twelve matches that have needed more than the usual 15 points for victory. The Lady Seminoles are 2-4 in these games with 17-15 game two win over Auburn and a 16-14 game two victory over Florida Atlantic. Most recently, Florida State fell 18-20 in game two against Wake Forest in last weekend’s opening ACC matches.
