COLLEGE PARK, MD — The University of Maryland women’s volleyball team upset ACC co-leader Florida State in a thrilling five-game match at Ritchie Coliseum Friday night with a 15-12, 9-15, 5-15, 15-13, 16-14 defeat of the Lady Seminoles.
After Florida State (22-9, 11-4) took two of the first three games, Maryland (11-15, 4-11) rallied in game four, hitting .319 as a team, to win 15-13 and force the match to a fifth game with rally scoring. In the final game, the Terps came up with the win behind the powerful attck of senior middle hitter Jaime Summers who registered the match-winning kill.
Summers led the Terps with 18 kills and a dominated .467 hitting percentage. She was also one of four Terps with double-figures in digs, posting 12.
The Lady Seminoles were led by senior outsid ehitter Holly Schneider who posted a team-high 15 kills, along with 9 digs. Sophomor Jennifer Werrick had 13 kills and 14 digs. LaToya Washington added 14 digs. Kensy Zulueta, in for senior setter Fiona Bolten who was out with the flu, posted a double-double with 42 assists and 13 digs.
Florida State closes out regular season play at Virginia Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
