Lady Seminoles Take Down N.C. State in Three Games

November 6, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball squad earned win
number 20 with a 15-5, 15-4, 15-10 victory over North Carolina State this
evening at Tully Gym. The Lady Seminoles improved to 20-8 overall and 10-3
in the ACC while the Wolfpack fell to 10-17 overall and winless at 0-14 in
the league.

Freshman Norisha Campbell and junior Aisha Thornton led the way
with hitting percentages of .455 and .450, respectively while senior Holly
Schneider led all players with a match-high 15 kills.

“I’m pleased that we were able to sweep another ACC opponent,” FSU
Head Coach Cecile Reynaud said. “I think 20 wins is very important to get
into the NCAA Tournament. With the schedule we’ve played, I think we’ve
done very well.”

The Lady Seminoles jumped to an early 5-1 advantage but NC State
closed the score to 5-3 before FSU ran off eight straight points and took
control of the game one and went on for the 15-5 win. In game two, FSU
took a quick 4-0 lead only to see the Wolfpack tie it at 4-4, but the Tribe
scored 11 straight for the win. In game three, Florida State had to come
from behind to take the match. NC State took its first lead of the match
at 5-4 and built leads of 7-4 and 9-6 but the Lady Seminoles came back to
tie the game at 9-9 and took the lead for good.

As a team, NC State hit just .105 and did not have any players
tally double-digit kills.

Florida State will face league-leading North Carolina in its final
home match of the season at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th. The Tar Heels
and the Lady Seminoles are one and two in the league and are separated by
just one win.
