Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team concluded the first day of the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships scoring points in the pentathlon and the weight throw. At the end of all the events, the men are tied for fourth (five points) and the women sit in fourth with nine points.
Junior Deanna Lane (Marietta, Ga./Pope) improved one spot from her conference championship finish in the pentathlon in 2004, to second-place with 3751 points and nine points towards the team placing. Lane finished in the top five in all five events including a five-way tie for first place in the high jump and a second place finish in the 60m hurdles. She took fourth in the shot put and long jump and fifth in the 800m run.
Junior Andrew Diakos (Naples, Fla./Barron-Collier) took fourth place in the weight throw with a mark of 57’7″ (17.55m) to put the only points on the scoreboard for the men on the first day.
Freshman Heather Leblanc (Live Oak, Fla./Suwannee) finished the pentathlon in eighth place with 3256. Junior Sarah Reed (Punta Gorda, Fla./Illinois) took 11th in the weight throw with a distance of 52’6″ (16.00m).
