TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State pitcher Leslie Malerich was named the ACC Softball Pitcher of the Week yesterday after notching three wins last week. The Lady Seminoles were also picked to finish first in the league by the ACC coaches.
Malerich, a native of Merrillville, Ind., opened the week striking out six batters and tossing a no hitter in the 9-0 win over Florida A&M. She picked up her second shutout of the week as she threw eight strikeouts in the 2-0 win over Florida Atlantic. Malerich is 4-1 on the season with a .97 ERA in 29 innings with 32 strikeouts and 10 walks. She has given up nine hits and only four earned runs, including two shutouts.
The Lady Seminoles were picked to finish first in the ACC by the coaches this week. FSU, has won the last two ACC titles and seven of the eight since 1992, received four of the possible five first place votes and finished with 23 points. Virginia was second with one first place vote, followed by Maryland, North Carolina and Georgia Tech. The Lady Seminoles will be hosting the 2000 ACC Tournament April 29-May 1.
