TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Freshman Jack Maguire of the Florida State men’s golf team has been selected to the 2014 United States Palmer Cup team. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 26-28 at Walton Health Golf Club in Surrey, England. He replaced Stanford’s Cameron Wilson.
“I’m so thankful to be given the opportunity to represent my school and country in the 2014 Palmer Cup,” said Maguire. “I am honored to be chosen to travel to Europe to compete with and against the best collegiate players in the world.”
Maguire won two tournaments and finished in the top 10 in eight of 11 events during his freshman campaign. With a stroke average of 70.79, he is the second-highest ranked freshman in the country at No. 14 according to Golfstat, and is the third-highest golfer from the ACC.
At the USF Invitational in March, Maguire carded the lowest round (62,-10) and the lowest tournament score in relation to par (-16) in Florida State history. He was named ACC Freshman of the Year and to the All-ACC team in April.
This is the second consecutive year a Seminole has been named to the Palmer Cup. Daniel Berger played for the United States in 2013 while Jonas Blixt played on the European Cup Team in 2007 and 2008.
