DURHAM, NC — The 2000 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships continued Thursday, June 1st and Florida State sophomore Makiba Batten placed ninth in the women’s discus. Batten’s throw of 165’09” placed her in the top 10 and sets the stage for what should be a strong
junior campaign next season.

Senior Tonya Carter ran in the preliminaries for the women’s 100m dash and registered the third best time of the day. Her mark of 11.30 was her fastest time so far this outdoor season and qualifies her for Friday’s 100m dash semifinals. The finals will be held Saturday, June 3rd.

Lady Seminole Samantha George finished third in her heat of the 400m dash. George’s time of 53.49 was not good enough to qualify her for
the semifinal round after entering the NCAA Championships with the
nation’s 4th fastest 400m time.
