Game Notes: Marquette & UAB

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Seventh-ranked Florida State (3-1-0) wraps up its three-game home stand this Friday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. when FSU welcomes No. 11 Marquette (4-0-0) to the Seminole Soccer Complex.

The Seminoles will then hit the road to face UAB (1-2-0) on Sunday, September 4 in a game set to start at 2:00 p.m. EST.

Friday’s contest is a rematch of last year’s third round NCAA Tournament action in Tallahassee – a game won by the Seminoles 3-0. Kassey Kallman assisted on Rachel Lim’s game-winner in the eighth minute, while Ella Stephan and Breezy Hupp each added a goal in the second half as the Seminoles advanced to the Elite Eight for the sixth year in a row.

Sunday’s match against UAB marks the second trip to Birmingham and first since a 1-0 FSU victory back in 1997. The Seminoles walked away with an 8-0 win over UAB as the two schools last met in Tallahassee in 2009. Tiffany McCarty, Rachel Lim and Katie Bolinsky each scored two goals, while Jessica Price tallied a goal and an assist. Tiana Brockway, Ines Jaurena and Tori Huster all earned an assist in the win.

The all-time series between the Seminoles and Golden Eagles is tied at one, while FSU is 2-0 all-time against the Blazers.

Florida State continues to thrive at home after posting back-to-back shutout victories over New Mexico (1-0) and North Florida (5-0) last week to extend its home unbeaten streak to 12 games – tied for the third longest streak in program history. The streak began with a 3-1 win over UCF back on September 12, 2010, during which the Seminoles have gone 11-0-1 with the lone blemish coming at the hands of Virginia as the two schools played to a scoreless draw (0-0, 2ot). FSU has won six in a row inside the Seminole Soccer Complex.

Price led all players last week with four points as she notched a goal and two assists. Kallman, named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week, tallied three points on a goal and an assist, while helping the Seminole backline record back-to-back shutouts. Kallman and Price combined on the lone goal in FSU’s 1-0 victory over New Mexico.
