TALLAHASSEE, Fla.Emanuel Mathis, who just completed his sophomore
season on the Florida State basketball team, has left the Seminole program,
FSU head coach Steve Robinson announced on Thursday.

“It is a mutually agreed upon decision,” said Robinson. “It is in
his best interest to pursue other basketball options. We wish him the best
with his future on the court and off it.”

Mathis, a 6-3 guard from Atlanta, Ga., appeared in 22 games last
season. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in 6.0 minutes per game.
His best game came in Florida State’s 77-51 win over The Citadel on Dec. 30
when he scored 16 points in 24 minutes. Mathis originally enrolled at
Florida State during the fall of 1998. He averaged 1.6 points in 3.5
minutes in 20 games during the 1998-99 season.
