TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – Florida State’s Tiffany McCarty and Kelsey Wys were honored for their efforts last week in leading the Seminoles to their first ACC Championship in school history.

McCarty was named one of’s Primetime Performers of the Week, while Wys was recognized as the Soccer New Net Player of the Week.

McCarty scored two goals in the ACC Tournament as both scores erased one-goal deficits in the semifinal victory over Virginia and in the championship final against Wake Forest. The Laurel, Md., native started the comeback against the Cavaliers scoring in the 55th minute to tie the game at one. In Sunday’s championship game, McCarty scored the equalizer with less than six minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime and then penalty kicks. The junior forward leads the ACC in points (36) and goals scored (16) heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Wys made three saves in a penalty kick shootout as Florida State defeated Wake Forest 3-1 in pks to capture its first ACC Championship. The two schools converted on their first penalty kick opportunities, but Wys stopped the Demon Deacons on their next three kicks to help the Seminoles to their first league championship in school history.

For her efforts, Wys was named MVP as she finished the ACC Tournament allowing just two goals in over 304 minutes of action. She registered 10 saves en route to posting a goals against average of 0.59 for the championship. Wys also picked up her second assist of the season as she and Tori Huster were part of a double passing combination which led to McCarty’s game-tying goal against Virginia in the semifinals.

McCarty, Wys and the rest of the Seminoles will return to action this Friday, November 11 when they host Samford at the Seminole Soccer Complex in first round action of the NCAA Tournament. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
