Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State senior LaKendra McColumn (Lithonia, Ga./Southwest Dekalb) ended her career last week as she planned four years ago when she first stepped on campus – as an All-American hurdler. The United States Track and Field Coaches Association released the complete list of All-Americans on Friday, June 16, 2006.
In Division I track and field, the top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, including relays, are accorded All-America status. In the individual (non-relay) events, if one or more of the top eight finishers are of another nationality, eight American-born athletes are selected in addition to any foreign-born All-Americans.
McColumn ran a season-best 58.08 and finished in 12th-place in the semifinals of the 400m hurdles to cap off her career as one of the top hurdlers on the team.
