TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Lauren McCreless will open up the 2010 NCAA Division I Singles Championship Wednesday, May 26 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. No. 22 McCreless is slated to battle fifth seeded Lenka Broosova of Baylor in the first round at noon.
“Lauren is ready to go and she is excited to be here,” FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde said.”This tournament features the best of the best in the country and Lauren has earned every bit of her way here. You are never going to step into a low level of competition here. Right now we are just staying focused and taking tomorrow as it comes. She had a good practice today and we are going to continue taking in the environment.”
In her first trip to the championships, McCreless will face Broosova for the second time this season as both opponents played each other at the ITA National Indoor Championship. Although the Seminole gave a good fight in the first set, Broosova dominated the match with a 7-6(3), 6-2 score to win.
“It’s great to be here among the greatest athletes in the country and representing Florida State,” McCreless said. “We have made a name for ourselves this season and I am glad to continue that. I am excited to play Lenka again because it gives me a chance to redeem myself. I played her earlier in the season and I think I am playing better now than I was then.”
As FSU’s most successful player in program history and the ITA Southeast Region Senior Player of the Year, McCreless enters the match with a notable 26-10 singles record that includes 11 victories over ranked opponents. Broosova currently holds an impressive 32-7 singles mark.
