McCumber Leads FSU At Auburn Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Florida State sophomore Beth McCumber (Orange
Park, Fla.) is tied for 11th place in the individual standings and the
Seminole women’s golf team is tied for eighth place following the first day
of the Auburn University Tiger Derby Invitational. The Seminoles’ first
event of the fall season is being played at the Auburn University Club and
runs through Sunday.

McCumber shot a career-best 75 and is within four strokes of the
current co-leaders Courtney Swain of Auburn and Anna Gertsson of
Mississippi State. Her 75 in Friday’s first round is one stroke better
than her previous career best of 76 which she stroked twice as a freshman.

Senior Louise Wright (Ipswich, England) is second among the
Seminole golfers. She is in 32nd place with a score of 78. Junior Alison
Zimmer (Tallahassee, Fla.) is close behind Wright, in 40th place, with a
score of 79.

The Seminoles finished day one of the tournament only 16 strokes
behind Auburn and Mississippi State who are tied for first with a team
score of 297. Florida State is within striking distance of the third
(Louisiana State) and sixth place teams (Central Florida and Vanderbilt)
and begin play on day two only 10 strokes out of second place.
