GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a 4-0 weekend at the FSU Invitational, seniors Tiffany McDonald and Brittany Osmon were named the ACC Pitcher and Co-Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on March 10. This is the first honor for both players this season.
McDonald led the Seminoles in two shutouts over the weekend, first in a 7-0 win against Connecticut on Saturday in which the Belfair, Wash., native struck out 11 and allowed just three hits. Returning to the mound in the first of two games against Georgia State, McDonald allowed only two hits while striking out 12 and giving up zero walks in 1-0 victory. After two complete games, she is now 4-1 this season and leads the pitching staff with a 1.09 ERA.
Proving to be a lethal weapon on offense for Florida State over the weekend was first baseman, Osmon, who hit safely in all games of the tournament. The south paw went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBI’s to seal the win for the Seminoles in the championship game against Georgia State on Sunday. After four games, she was 7-for-10 and improved her average to .382 on the season.
This is the first ACC weekly accolade for both Osmon and McDonald, who was the 2005 ACC Co-Rookie of the Year. The Seminoles now have three weekly honorees; freshman Ashley Stager was named Player of the Week on Feb. 18, a first for Florida State since the 2006 season.
Next up for FSU will be a home doubleheader with Connecticut on Tuesday, March 11, before heading out to Charlottesville, Va., to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on March 14 and 15.
