TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s and men’s tennis teams will host ACC matches Saturday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on the campus of Florida State University. The women will host the University of North Carolina at 11 a.m., while the men will take on Wake Forest University at 2 p.m. The men’s team was originally scheduled to play Florida Atlantic University on Sunday March 31st, however that match has been cancelled. Both of the Florida State’s teams enter the weekend ranked 50th in their respective polls.
The Lady Seminoles will be looking for their second victory in ACC play. The match against the Tar Heels will mark the Seminoles return home after a four-match road stint. North Carolina enters the match ranked 40th. The Seminoles lead the all-time series against the Tar Heels 12-8, and have won four of the last five matches against the Heels. Last season, the Tar Heels defeated the Seminoles 6-1 in Chapel Hill. This season the Seminoles hope that with a home court advantage, they can avenge last year’s loss.
The Seminoles will be looking to remain undefeated in the ACC, after starting conference play with a 4-0 record. The Seminoles lead the all time series with the Demon Deacons, 14-5. Last season, the Seminoles lost to Wake 6-1 in Winston-Salem. The Deacs come to Tallahassee with a 13-2 record. On Wednesday, no. 16 Duke broke Wake Forest’s 13 game winning streak. Saturday’s match will not be easy for the Seminoles, as the Demon Deacons enter the match ranked 19th and feature 46th ranked David Loewenthal. However, the Seminoles, 12-5 on the season, have only lost one of their ten home matches this season.
After Saturday’s match, the women’s tennis team will return to play on Wednesday April 3rd, as they host 4th ranked Duke at 5:30 p.m. Due to the cancellation of Sunday’s Florida Atlantic match, the men’s team will have off until they host North Carolina Saturday, April 6th.
