TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Athlon Sports magazine released its preview of the 2009-10 men’s basketball season, with Florida State named as one of the top contenders in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It describes the Seminoles as contender in the ACC race for the upcoming season.
Athlon predicts 7’1″ sophomore center Solomon Alabi will be one of the major factors in the Seminoles success this season. The editors noted Alabi’s physical and mental growth during the offseason. Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton told the magazine, “He’s become more of a student of the game… You always have to concern yourself with Solomon.”
According to the magazine senior Ryan Reid and sophomore Chris Singleton will also be among the players in the ACC to watch during the season. The magazine noted Singleton, a McDonald’s All-American, “exceeded expectations on the defensive end” last season. Singleton dedicated a significant amount of time in the offseason to improving his ball-handling skills, which Athlon notes will complement his solid perimeter play.
Sophomore Xavier Gibson is called “the most physically gifted of the bunch” by the magazine and is expected to contribute to the Seminoles march back to a predicted second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
Athlon expects depth, length and the returning experience to play a major role for the Seminoles this season. “We like the potential we have,” explains Hamilton to the magazine. “I think we’re capable of competing with anyone in our league.”
