AUBURN, Ala. –The Florida State Seminoles finished in fifth place at the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate at the Saugahatchee Country Club in Auburn, AL. The Seminoles fired a team score of 297 in the final round to finish four strokes ahead of the University of Tennessee and Mississippi State.
Senior Craig Cochran led the Seminoles from start to finish, ending the tournament tied for 11th with Stewart Ginn of South Carolina. Cochran was the first-round leader but fired back-to-back rounds of 74 to finish with a three-round total of 216. Teammate Kris Hannah finished one stroke behind and tied for 13th. Matt Ackley recorded his highest finish as a Seminole, posting an even-par 72 in the final round to finish tied for 21st. Mark Donaldson struggled in the final round, firing a 77 to end tied for 40th at 225. Nathan Bertsch rounded out the scoring, finishing alone in 59th.
Auburn University won the team championship by eight strokes over South Carolina. Haymes Snedeker of Ole Miss claimed individual honors , beating Kevin Haefner of Auburn by two strokes.
The Seminoles will travel to the ACC Championships this weekend at the Old North State Club in Uwharrie Point, NC.
