TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The No. 18 Florida State Men’s Golf team ended its stay at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational with a fifth-place finish on Sunday, shooting 27-over for the three-day tournament at Olympia Fields. Florida State shot an 867 overall (294-286-287), including a 7-over 287 in the final round. Redshirt senior Cristobal Del Solar shot under par for the second consecutive day, closing with a 1-under 69 and tying for 12th overall at 3-over. He recorded four birdies in his final round and his only notable blemish was a double bogey on the final 18th hole.
Del Solar is off to a good start in the fall season, tying for second at the Rod Myers Invitational last weekend and following with a good performance in Illinois. This weekend, he shot 1-under on par 3 holes and 1-under on par 5 holes.
Lee turned in a 1-over 71 on Sunday and shot 4-over cumulatively to tie for 15th. He finished his final round in style with consecutive birdies to close out the day.
Redshirt junior Harry Ellis tied for 29th at 9-over, shooting a 1-over 71. He delivered four birdies in his final round. Sophomore Corey Carlson (+17) and redshirt freshman Jonathan Keppler ended with a tie for 54th and a 71st-place finish, respectively.
This weekend was FSU’s ninth consecutive season participating in the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational. Tournament host Illinois won the invite at 5-over, followed by Oklahoma State (+18) in second, Texas A&M (+24) in third and North Carolina (+26) in fourth.
FSU has a two-week break before playing once again in the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate at Old Overton Golf Club in Birmingham, Ala. The tournament will be held Oct. 3-4.
