May 21, 2010

Junior Drew Kittleson and sophomore Wesley Graham are in a three-way tie for first place in the individual standings and the No. 15 Florida State men’s golf team is in second place in the team standings at the NCAA Central Regional at the Warren Golf Course. The field of 14 teams endured a rain delay beginning at 1:20 EST as play was suspended after on seven of the 25 groups had finished play – only Michigan (fifth place), Iowa (sixth) and Indiana (tied for ninth) were able to finish play before thunder, lighting and rain engulfed the area for the remainder of the afternoon.

The Seminoles will complete their play in the second round and begin play in Saturday’s final round looking to finish in the top five of the team standings of the 14 team field in order to advance to the NCAA Championship finals June 1-4 at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Officials determined that round two will resume from the point of interruption at 8 a.m. (ET) Saturday after the last part of the first round was washed out. Teams will not be re-paired based on the 36-hole standings, but instead will keep the same pairings as they had today (Friday) for Saturday’s round 3. The third round will begin from the #10 tee beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET) and from the #1 tee beginning at 8:50 a.m. (ET).

Stanford continued to lead the field while the Seminoles moved into second place with the second best team score of the second round. The Seminoles began the day in fourth place and utilized below par two individual scores to move into second place. Florida State is looking to advance to the NCAA championship finals for the first time since 2007 and for only the second time under head coach Trey Jones.

Kittleson (Scottsdale, Az.) and Graham (Port Orange, Fla.) are at four under par and have two and three holes remaining to be played respectively to finish play in the second round. The Seminole pair is tied with Michigan’s Matt Thompson who has completed play in both of his first two rounds with scores of 71 and 65. Both Kittleson and Graham will finish play in their second rounds before beginning play in the third and final round of the tournament.
