Men’s Golf Places Fourth at ACC Championship

CLINTON, S.C. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Men’s Golf team ended its stay in South Carolina with a fourth-place finish at the ACC Championship, which hosted the final two rounds on Saturday at Musgrove Mill Golf Club.

The Seminoles totaled 4-over par (278-300-290) on a day where most scores across the board were higher. Sophomore golfer Bennett Baker completed his good weekend by shooting a 2-under 214 (70-73-71) over the three rounds, tying for eighth place. Over the course of his two rounds on Saturday, the Chiles High School product moved up three spots from his starting position.

Redshirt senior Cristobal Del Solar completed his fifth Top 10 finish of the year, tying for 10th at 1-under (67-74-74) overall. Baker and Del Solar were two of just 13 individuals in the field to finish under par. Del Solar tied for the lowest average score among all golfers on par 4 holes, averaging 3.93. His 15 birdies recorded were also tied for the most.

Duke ran away with the ACC title after shooting 14-under. Clemson was a distant second-place finisher at 2-under, followed by Wake Forest (+3), FSU, NC State (+9), Virginia (+10), Georgia Tech (+19), North Carolina (+19), Virginia Tech (+29), Notre Dame (+36), Louisville (+41) and Boston College (+50).

Among all teams, FSU finished second in par 5 scoring (-18) and birdies (50).

Redshirt junior Harry Ellis tied for 18th overall after shooting 3-over, which ended with an even-par 72 in his final round. Senior Josh Lee tied for 22nd at 4-over, and redshirt freshman Jonathan Keppler tied for 56th at 21-over.

The Seminoles await their seeding for the upcoming NCAA Tournament when the Division I Men’s Golf Selection Show airs on Thursday, May 4, at noon on The Golf Channel. A total of 81 teams and 45 individuals will be selected to the field.

The six different regional sites are located in Auburn, Wash., Austin, Texas, Baton Rouge, La., College Grove, Tenn., Stanford, Calif. and West Lafayette, Ind.
