TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The 24th-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf Team prepares to finish its fall season at another difficult tournament, participating in this weekend’s Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate held Oct. 20-22 at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
Eight of the 15 teams in the field boast a Top 25 ranking in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, including five Top 10 teams in Texas A&M (1), Oklahoma State (2), Georgia Tech (6), Oklahoma (7) and Wake Forest (9). The Lakeside course is a par-72, 7,017-yard course.
Sophomore Jake Carter, redshirt senior Harry Ellis, redshirt sophomore Jonathan Keppler, sophomore Jamie Li and freshman John Pak will be FSU’s starting five. The Seminoles own two Top-five finishes in their three tournaments played, including winning the season-opening Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Ellis is coming off his first collegiate victory, sharing the Marquette Intercollegiate title at Erin Hills on Oct. 3. Ellis carries a 71.0 scoring average in what will be his third tournament played this fall. Pak continues to lead the Seminoles, averaging a 70.67.
Despite finishing 11-over at a difficult golf course in Erin Hills, Pak carded a 9-under 201 at The Doc Gimmer to finish second in his first tournament as a Seminole. He backed up his performance with a 2-under 208 at the Fighting Illini/OFCC Invitational, finishing eighth.
Pak’s three-day aggregate score of 201 was the fourth-lowest three-round total by a Seminole in program history.
This weekend will mark FSU’s ninth visit to Alpharetta, with the first coming at what was formerly known as the United States Collegiate Championship in 2006. Its last trip came from Oct. 16-18, 2015, finish in fourth place.
