Men’s Hoops Falls to ACC Rival Virginia

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Donald Hand scored 22 points and Chris Williams
added 18 to lead Virginia to a 67-60 upset of Florida State Saturday.

Virginia (12-10 overall, 1-8 ACC) won for the first time in 13 conference
road games.

Florida State (11-9, 5-4) had won three straight home ACC games, but it
trailed Virginia for much of the game.

The Seminoles took their final lead, 54-53, with 4:55 left on a pair of free
throws by Delvon Arrington. But Virginia regained the lead for good with 4:40
showing as Hand knocked down a wide open 3-pointer from the right wing.

Williams gave Virginia a 59-54 advantage with 3:09 left when he knocked down
Virginia’s seventh and final 3-pointer of the second half.

FSU got within 61-58 with 52 seconds left, but Virginia made its last six
free throws to put the game away.

The Cavaliers now own a 5-3 record in Tallahassee since FSU joined the lead
in 1992, giving Virginia the second-best league record at FSU behind Duke.

Virginia, which went 7-for-10 from 3-point range in the second half after
going 0-for-5 in the first half, outrebounded FSU 37-28. The Cavs are 9-0 this
season when they outrebound the opposition this season.

Ron Hale (19 points) paced the Seminoles, who shot just 35.6 percent from
the field. Reserve Adrian Crawford added 13 points and Damous Anderson had 10
points and six rebounds.
