Men’s Hoops Looks to Rebound at Wake Forest, Feb. 20

FLORIDA STATE

The Seminoles are coming off an 85-59 home loss to No. 1 Duke on Wednesday night. The loss was FSU’s fourth in a row and its sixth straight in ACC play. Damous Anderson scored 16 points in the losing cause…Anderson has scored in double figures in 11 straight games. He is averaging 14.1 points in that span on 60.6 percent shooting from the field…Florida State’s conference losing streak is its longest in its eight years in the league. Despite the skid, the Seminoles are still tied for fourth place in the ACC’s standings with Wake Forest and Georgia Tech…Junior forward Oliver Simmons scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench against Duke. It was his first double figure scoring effort in 11 games, since scoring 12 at Georgia Tech on Jan. 6. He averaged just 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in between double figure games.


WAKE FOREST

The Demon Deacons are coming off a 67-58 home win over Georgia Tech on Tuesday night. Sophomore guard Robert O’Kelley led Wake Forest with 25 points while Rafael Vidaurreta added 13 points and 12 rebounds…After dropping five straight games at the end of January, the Deacons have won three of their last five…O’Kelley is one of two Wake players averaging in double fiugres. He leads the team in scoring at a 16.9 clip. Freshman Darius Songalia is the other with a 11.7 points per game average…Vidauretta has led Wake in rebounding in 11 of its last 13 games and is averaging 9.1 per game in his last seven…Wake’s Craig Dawson (8.0 ppg) is the nephew of former FSU star Tony Dawon, who averaged 19.4 points from 1987-89.


Saturday’s game marks the 19th meeting between Florida State and Wake Forest. The series is tied at nine games apiece after the Seminoles won the first meeting of the season, 74-68 on Jan. 20 in Tallahassee. Ron Hale led FSU with 21 points and seven rebounds…Each team has won eight games against the other since FSU joined the ACC in 1991-92. Florida State is 2-5 in seven previous visits to Lawrence Joel Coliseum….The two teams are tied for fourth place in the ACC standings along with Georgia Tech at 5-8…Seven of the last nine games in the series have been decided by six points or less.
