Men’s Swimming And Diving Fourth At ACC Championship

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida State men’s swimming and diving team finished
4th at the 2000 ACC Championships tonight. Virginia (801) won the meet for
the second straight year, followed by North Carolina (662.50), NC State
(507.5), FSU (488.5), Maryland (384.50), Georgia Tech (289), Clemson (274)
and Duke (116).

Senior Danny Chocron, swimming in his first ACC Championships in two years
because of injury, took 9th in the 1650 Free (15:34.80) with Bill Schultz
finishing 11th (15:38.19). Greg Main-Baillie then finished 8th in the 200
Back (1:50.23) as Kevin Flanagan finished 2nd in the 100 Free in an NCAA
Consideration time of 44.76. Nnamnse Ammons finished 12th in the event.
Brett Petersen swam an NCAA Consideration time of 2:01.09 on his way to a
9th place finish in the 200 Breast with Justin Betts taking 13th in the
event (2:04.00). Nelson Mora and Devon Crock finished 9th (1:49.54) and 12th
(1:52.06) respectively in the 200 Fly as the 400 Free Relay team of
Main-Baillie, Flanagan, Ammons and Joey Marshburn finished 4th in the event
(3:00.81). In diving action, Brent Burkman took 3rd on the three-meter
(508.95) with Glen Gonzales finishing 5th (496.60) and Ben Nuttall taking
8th (413.50).

The Seminole divers will head to the NCAA Zone Qualifying meet on March
10-13 in Auburn, Ala. The NCAA Championships will be held in Minneapolis,
Minn., March 23-25.
