TALLAHASSEE, FL – The #10 Florida State men’s swimming and diving team will compete in the ACC Championships , hosted by the University of Maryland, in College Park, MD. Competition begins Thursday, February 25 and concludes Saturday, February 27.
The Seminoles finished third in the ACC Championships last year behind Virginia and UNC. FSU had eight individual top three finishes and four relays in the top three. Brendon Dedekind took ACC Swimmer of the Year honors after winning the 50 Free and 100 Breast and finishing 2nd in the 100 Free. Stephen Parry finished 3rd in the 200 Fly and Brett Petersen took 2nd behind Dedekind in the 100 Breast. Julio Santos finished 2nd in the 50 Free as Brent Burkman finished 3rd on the one and three-meter springboards. The 200 and 400 Free Relay won the events, setting a pool record as the 200 Medley Relay won in pool record and ACC Meet record time. The 800 Free Relay also finished 3rd.
Five Seminoles and all five relays are currently ranked in the Taper and Shave Top 25 in the nation with Petersen in the top spot in the 100 Breast and Parry holding the top time for the 200 Fly. Brendon Dedekind, Keam Ang and Julio Santos also hold top 25 times. FSU also has eleven competitors in the ACC Top 10 in their respective events and two hold top times in the conference in five events: Dedekind in the 100 Breast and 50 and 100 Free and Parry in the 200 Fly and 200 Back. The Seminoles are also ranked 10th in the CSCAA Poll.
The Seminoles finished the season 6-1, undefeated in the ACC and hold the best winning percentage in the ACC (.857). The competition begins each day with preliminaries beginning at Noon and the finals each night at 7:00pm.
