DALLAS — Eight swimmers and one diver will represent Florida State in
the 17th annual Dallas Morning News Classic, hosted by Southern Methodist
University January 22-23. Florida State will join Texas, Tennessee,
Michigan, Minnesota, and Southern Methodist in the nine-man team
competition this weekend.
The classic features the short, faster races including the 50, 100, 200
and 500 Free, the 100 and 200 events in the Breast, Back and Fly, the 200
and 400 IM, the 400 Medley Relay, and the 200, 400 and 800 Free Relays. The
divers will compete on the one and three meter springboards. Each team is
allowed to send eight swimmers and one diver to the classic and each night
will include consolation and finals with no preliminary heats. Brent
Burkman will represent FSU in the diving competition after sweeping the
competition in the dual meet against Virginia. Seniors Brendon Dedekind,
Stephen Parry, Matt McVittie and Julio Santos will join juniors Brett
Petersen and Nelson Mora and sophomores Keam Ang and Greg Main-Baillie inth
e swimming events.
Competition begins Friday, January 22 and conclude on Saturday. Both days
of competition begin at 7:30 Central Time.
