Men’s Tennis Completes Day 2 Of ITA Regional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida State men’s tennis team came out
strong Thursday in the second day of tournament play at the ITA Regional
Tournament.

Thursday morning in singles competition, Seminole senior Chad Mooney went
up against UNC’s Amine Elouazzani in the round of 32. Mooney defeated
Elouazzani in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Mooney advanced to the round of 16
where he faced and fell to Trent Brendon of WFU. Sophomore Noah Schnell also
competed in the singles round of 32 Thursday morning where he faced and fell
to WFU’s Brett Mauro, but not without a fight. Schnell lost to Mauro
6-7, 6-7. Jeff Scarella faced and defeated Erik Petterson of HU in the
singles round of 32 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Scarella advanced to the
round of 16 where he fell to WFU’s David Loewenthal.

In doubles play the Seminole tandem of sophomore Xavier Luscan and
freshman Jerrod Owen faced UNC’s Nicholas Monroe and Marcio Petrone in
the round of 32, results for this match were not available. Romain Jurd and
Joe Bassett teamed together in the round of 16 play where they fell to
WFU’s Brendon and Simpson.

Upcoming matches for the Noles will include Owen who will play in the
singles round of 64 Friday at 8:00 a.m. No. 4 seed Luscan, who will face
Clemson’s Marko Gojanovic Friday morning. Mooney will play Florian
Marquardt of VCU Friday afternoon for a chance to advance to the singles
round of 32. Freshman Alex Herrera will see tournament play Friday afternoon
where he faces Thomas Miho of CSU.

Tournament play at the ITA Regional will continue through to Sunday Nov.
5th.
