TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The courts at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center were on
fire as the action heated up Saturday on the second day of the Seminole
Fall Classic. The Seminoles started the day looking to build upon their
early accomplishments with second day victories to propel them into the
finals.

The host Seminoles endured some adversity on the second day of the Classic
as no Florida State player advanced to the final rounds of the tournament.
FSU freshman Deni Franulovic tried to extend his early success with a third
round win against Estevom Strecker of Auburn. Franulovic put up a good
match, but was eventually defeated by the Tiger, 6-4, 6-4. Strecker went on
to face Florida Atlantic’s Juan Ros in the semifinals, but came up short,
6-2, 6-3. Ros, who started the tournament as the #7 seed, will face
Valdosta State’s Nicolai Sablowski in the Singles A finals tomorrow.

Other Seminoles fell short of their aspirations in their matches as well.
FSU senior Michael Ingham faced Raitis Tukans of Auburn in the third round,
but came up short in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Tukans advanced to the
semifinals where he defeated the tournament’s #1 seed, Oliver Foreman of
Middle Tennessee State, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6. Tukans will battle MTSU’s Daniel
Klementz, who entered the tournament as the #4 seed, in the Singles A
Consolation finals. Seminole freshman Joseph Bassett reached the semifinals
of the Singles B competition where he was defeated by FAU’s Fabio Faerman
in straight sets. Faerman will matchup with fellow teammate Sandro Spotti
in the finals of the Singles B competition. FSU’s Elliot Elias was beaten
by John Richards of Florida A & M in the third round of the Singles B
Consolation, 6-2, 6-0. Richards then came up short against MTSU’s Michael
Chamberlain for a spot in the Singles B consolation finals. Chamberlain
will do battle with VSU’s Mike Suggs for the Singles B consolation crown.

In doubles news, the FSU duo of Deni Franulovic and Rodrigo Laub came up
short in a close match against FAU’s Ben Cooper and Doug Deurient. Cooper
and Deurient will face MTSU’s tandem of Mehdi Belbacha and Michael
Chamberlain in the semifinals of the Doubles Main Draw. Olle Nystrom and
Oliver Foreman of MTSU ousted FSU’s Chad Mooney and Michael Ingham in the
third round to earn a spot in the semifinals. They will face FAU’s Juan Ros
and Sandro Spotti for a chance to play in the finals of the Doubles main
draw. VSU’s Nicolai Sablowski and Rasmus Larsen will meet Marcel Mizerski
and Julien Curatella in the Doubles Back Draw semifinals. The winner will
face Auburn’s Mark Kovac and Raitis Tukans in the finals for the Doubles
Consolation championship.

The action begins at 9:00 a.m. Sunday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
