Men’s Tennis Double Sweeps Double Header

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 48th-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team
completed their Saturday doubleheader by posting their second sweep of the
afternoon. The Seminoles won their fourth straight home match of the 2000
dual match season and improved their record to 5-1. Florida State started
the day with a 7-0 win over the University of North Carolina-Asheville and
completed the day with a 7-0 win over Jacksonville University. The men’s
team only lost one match in doubles and only lost two sets in singles all
day Saturday.

Xavier Luscan improved his winning streak to four games by
defeating junior Juan Cabrera 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Luscan is now
5-1 in the No. 1 spot this season. Mike Ingham won his 76th career match
for Florida State by defeating Bram Tukker in No. 2 singles 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Ingham’s two wins Saturday improved his season record to 4-2. In No. 3
singles, Chad Mooney won in straight sets against Addams England 6-4, 6-3
to improve his overall record to 7-3.

Sophomore Noah Schnell, now 4-2 on the season, defeated Hart
Pollack 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot. Junior Jay Travis rebounded from a slow
start to the season by defeating Tom Freiburger 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot.
Jeff Scarella completed the singles competition with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the
No. 6 spot. That win evened Scarella’s season record to 3-3.

The Seminoles only dropped one match all afternoon and that was in
No. 1 doubles. Cabrera/England narrowly defeated Ingham/Scarella 9-8 but
Florida State bounced back in the next two matches. Travis/Schnell defeated
Pollack/Freiburger 8-5 in the No. 2 spot and Luscan/Mooney defeated
Tukker/Martin 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles slot.

The Seminoles next match will be against Florida Atlantic Friday,
February 18, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
