Men’s Tennis Drops Florida Atlantic, 4-3

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Friday at Scott Speicher Tennis Center, the
46th-ranked Florida State Seminoles kicked off their second weekend of home
matches in the month of February. The Noles took on the Florida Atlantic
University Owls of Boca Raton, FL and dropped the Owl’s record to 4-2.

Starting the afternoon off at No. 1 singles, 56th-ranked Xavier
Luscan defeated Senior Juan Ros, of Murcia, Spain by a score of 6-1, 6-1 to
raise Luscan’s winning streak to five. Next at No. 2 singles, Jay Travis
dropped a match that was closer than the score reflected to FAU’s Daniel
Dauber by a score of 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. Preceding Travis and Dauber at No. 2
singles, was England native Mike Ingham and Canada native Doug Devriendt at
No. 3 singles. The 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win for Ingham marked the 77th win of his

Chad Mooney played a tough match against Ludovic Pain at the No. 4
singles position. The win was Mooney’s first at the No. 4 position as he
defeated FAU’s Pain by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Approaching the end of the
singles portion of Friday’s match against the Owls and the Noles, Noah
Schnell and Sandro Spotti, both sophomores, played their match at the No. 5
position. This match ended in an unusual way, with the score 5-7, 4-6, 3-5
Schnell was forced to take a game-misconduct penalty that had carried over
from the Travis/Dauber match.

Ending the singles portion of the match, Atlanta, Georgia native
Rodrigo Laub carried out a hard-fought match against Fabio Faerman from
Brazil. In the end, Laub increased his winning streak to seven as he
pulled off the match by a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

In the doubles portion of the match against the Owls and the Noles,
Schnell/Travis dropped the match to Dauber/Hur at the No. 1 position by a
score of 8-6. This was the duo’s first loss in their last three games

The second match of the doubles section occurred between FSU’s
Scarella/Ingham and FAU’s Ros/Faerman. The Noles were defeated by the
Owls, 8-4 giving Scarella and Ingham their first loss at the No. 2

With the doubles point already in hand, FSU’s tandem of Laub/Luscan
dropped FAU’s tandem of Devriendt/Pain by a score of 8-5. The win
increased Laub and Luscan’s winning streak to two, while increasing their
No. 3 doubles record to 2-0.
