GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The 45th-ranked Florida State Seminoles lost for
only the fifth time this season in Gainesville, Fla., to the Florida Gators
on Wednesday. Florida State’s record falls to 9-5 while the fourth-ranked
Gators improve to 13-2.
Florida State could not end Florida’s nine-match home winning
streak and the Seminoles could not turn around their recent losing streak.
After winning nine of their first 10 spring dual matches, FSU has lost
their last four matches. Three of those matches were on the road and two
of those teams are ranked among the top 15 in the country.
FSU sophomore Xavier Luscan, who is ranked 28th in the nation, took
the country’s seventh-ranked player to three sets before falling 4-6, 6-3,
6-1. Luscan’s loss to Florida’s Jeff Morrison was his third loss against
ranked opponents this season. Luscan has won two of five matches against
ranked foes including a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 dismantling of New Mexico’s
10th-ranked player, Matt Amgerwerd in late January.
Florida State will return home before traveling to Maryland and
Virginia this weekend to continue their ACC schedule. The Seminoles are
1-2 in conference play this season.
