Men’s Tennis Notches Ninth Win

March 9, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State men’s tennis team improved to 9-1
on the season with a 5-2 victory over ACC foe Wake Forest this afternoon at
the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The match was FSU’s first ACC contest of
the spring season and the first of two ACC matches this week. The Tribe
will host North Carolina tomorrow in a 2:30 p.m. match.

“Today was a hard-fought match,” FSU head coach Dave Barron said. “We
could have lost 5-2. Our guys really hung in there and finished strong.”

Four of the singles’ matches needed three sets to determine the winner.
FSU’s No. 1 Ty Braswell fell 1-6, 3-6, but the Tribe’s Nos. 2-5 were
victorious, including Yvo Niks who came back after falling in the first set
6-7 to take the match 6-3, 6-4. He is now a perfect 10-0 in dual action
and 19-3 overall — the most victories of any FSU player.
