Men’s Tennis Set to Host Bedford Cup and Begin Play in the ITA All-American Main Draw

Tallahassee, Fla. The Florida State Men’s tennis team hosts its only tournament of the fall, the Bedford Cup, from Thursday through Saturday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Seniors Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst, sophomore Alex Knaff and freshman Chase Wood will play in the event.

The Bedford Cup is an all-Florida Tournament sponsored by the Youth Tennis Foundation of Florida. It will host 10 of the 11 Division I tennis teams in the state of Florida, including Stetson, UNF, FAU, FGCU, FAMU, UCF, USF, FIU, Miami and Bethune-Cookman.

The tournament will consist of a 32-man and a 16-man singles bracket as well as a 16-man and an eight-man doubles bracket.

“We are always excited and committed to play in the Bedford Cup,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We really appreciate what the foundation has done to support all 11 schools in Florida. We have four guys playing in it this year. It is a good opportunity to get a lot of matches in and see if one of our guys can make a big run in the tournament in both singles and doubles.”

Play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, with the semifinals of doubles and finals of doubles and singles on Saturday.

Four Noles Begin Play in ITA All-American Main Draw

Redshirt senior Jose Gracia will team up with fellow redshirt senior Lucas Poullain in the doubles main draw of the ITA All-American tournament. Poullain and senior Guy Iradukunda will compete in the singles main draw.

Florida State is one of eight teams to have at least two singles players and one doubles team in the main draw.

“It is really great to see that we are one of eight teams in the country that have two singles players and a doubles team in All-Americans,” said Hultquist. “That shows the depth of our team. Lucas and Guy, who are playing in singles, have the opportunity to get top wins and make a run. Jose and Lucas do as well in doubles.”
